How We Started
A group of students from Oak Hill High School wanted students to have an opportunity to get outside. This group of students went to WVU and entered the launch lab competition high school version and won start-up money for the club. Unfortunately, this was at the beginning of March in 2020, right before the pandemic when everything shut down. The three seniors never got to go on a trip; However, all three of them go on outdoor adventures anyway. The students in the picture from left to right are; Dion Carroll, Jack Ellis, Ian McDonald, Kiya Babkirk, and Sarah Hale.
Guidelines
- Always be kind to one another and respect each other (this includes ability and skill level). Be supportive and build each other up
- Follow through on your commitments. If you sign up for a trip and don’t show up or cancel last minute then that is a spot wasted that someone else could participate and the club must pay for the wasted spot. These trips take a lot of planning, please be considerate of time.
- We will practice Leave No Trace Ethics by being respectful and considerate of our natural surroundings.
- Always be honest
Meet The Instructor
“My name is Aleah Denny, I am a Health Educator with New River Health. I have a master’s degree in education and was a science teacher for seven years in Fayette County schools. Over the past 20 years, I have spent my summers raft guiding and I am first aid and CPR certified. I spend my free time hiking and biking in the New River Gorge area. In the wintertime, I love to snowboard and have worked as a snowboard instructor. The 4-H Outdoor Adventure club provides a wonderful opportunity for teens to get outside enjoying healthy activities in a safe environment.”
